Every case that reaches this stage is published — including the ones that come to nothing.
A report can be under investigation, substantiated and put right, or checked and found not to hold up. All three are published here with their dates and the company's own response, because a record that only keeps the accusations is not a record.
Three states, one page
None of these is a high risk rating. Each means something different, and the difference matters to the company as much as to you.
- Under investigation
A report passed verification and we are checking it. Nothing is proven, and the company has been asked to respond.
What it takes- At least one report survived identity and evidence checks
- The traveller supplied a booking reference, receipt or written exchange
- The company has been contacted and the response window is open
Afterwards: It becomes High risk, Resolved, or Not substantiated once the check finishes.
- Resolved
A report was substantiated and the company put it right. It stays on the record, because the record is the point.
What it takes- The reported issue was substantiated
- The company refunded, corrected or changed the practice
- The traveller confirmed it, or documentary evidence shows it
Afterwards: It does not leave. Resolved entries stay published, dated, with the company's response.
- Not substantiated
A report was made and checked, and the evidence did not support it. Published so the company is not quietly tarnished.
What it takes- The report could not be corroborated
- Evidence contradicted the account, or none was supplied
- Identity or booking could not be confirmed
Afterwards: It does not leave, and it does not count towards any other band.
