Quick answer

The main New Year's Eve fireworks in Dubai are around the Burj Khalifa in Downtown, with other displays at Atlantis on the Palm, along the Marina and JBR, and at Global Village, the big ones at midnight. Public viewing is free, but the closest areas fill hours early and roads around Downtown close, while tickets, hotel dinners and boats buy space rather than a different show. For the 2026-27 New Year, as in most years, line-ups are confirmed only weeks ahead, so check the official announcements in December and plan to arrive early, by Metro or on foot.

Where are the New Year's Eve fireworks in Dubai?

Dubai has several fireworks shows, not one, all built around the midnight countdown, and you can only properly watch one. For the 2026-27 New Year, as in most years, organisers confirm line-ups and ticketing only weeks ahead, so treat what follows as how the night has usually worked.

  • The Burj Khalifa and Downtown host the headline show: a light show down the 828-metre tower and fireworks launched from it and around Burj Khalifa Lake at midnight, watched from the Dubai Mall waterfront and the Downtown boulevards.
  • Palm Jumeirah has staged its own display over the crescent, centred on Atlantis, The Palm and promenades such as The Pointe. Traffic on and off the island backs up, so it suits people already staying there.
  • Dubai Marina and JBR have put on fireworks of their own around midnight, watched from the Marina Walk and the JBR waterfront. It is free, open-air and loud, and the Dubai Tram runs along it.
  • Global Village, the seasonal Dubailand park, has hosted fireworks, at times through the evening for other countries' time zones before the UAE's midnight. There is an entry fee, and you get there by road.
  • On the Jumeirah coast, the Burj Al Arab area has had its own display in some years, watched from the public beaches nearby.

Free viewing spots vs paid and ticketed areas

Most displays can be watched from public ground for free, the public beaches included, but free does not mean easy. The areas closest to the Burj Khalifa fill hours before midnight and are closed once full, so arriving at 10pm can mean watching from several streets back, or not at all.

Paid options buy space, not a different show: ticketed zones and galas near the lake in some years, terrace dinners, hotel events and boats. You get a reserved spot, a seat, food, toilets and an easier exit, though ticketed does not always mean closer, so ask for a view map. The display lasts minutes; the closest view costs hours of standing.

Can you watch the fireworks from a boat?

A boat is the one option that takes you out of the crowd. From the water you see the coastal displays at the Palm and Atlantis, the Marina and JBR, and the Burj Al Arab, but not a front-row view of the Burj Khalifa show: the tower stands inland on its own lake, so from the sea it is distant.

Shared dhow and yacht cruises sell tickets per person. A private yacht is a fixed New Year package, typically at several times a normal evening's rate, because boats must be in position hours before midnight. Our guide to New Year's Eve on a yacht covers what you see from where, and the yacht rental pages compare private charters.

Ask where the boat will be at midnight, whether it anchors or sails, and what the price includes.

Restaurants and hotels with a fireworks view

Hotels and terrace restaurants in Downtown, Business Bay, the Marina, JBR and on the Palm sell New Year's Eve dinners with a view, usually a fixed-price set menu paid in advance. A clear view of the Burj Khalifa show is among the hardest bookings that night, and tables are often released in the autumn.

Prices surge. At the time of writing a set-menu dinner with a view typically runs from roughly AED 600 to AED 2,500 a person, with big hotel galas often well above AED 3,000. Rooms follow suit: rates on 31 December can be several times a normal night, minimum stays are common, and many hotels add a compulsory gala-dinner charge. Before you pay, ask:

  • Whether the view is of the show itself, and whether the table is outdoors.
  • What the price includes and the cancellation terms: prepayment is the norm and refunds are often limited.

Getting there: road closures, the Metro and taxis

Plan the journey before the dinner. Roads around Downtown close in stages from the afternoon. Taxis and ride-hailing can only drop you at the edge of the closed zone, fares surge, and after midnight a car can take an hour or more to find. Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) publish closures shortly before the night.

The most reliable way into Downtown is the Dubai Metro. In recent years the RTA has kept it and the tram running well past the usual midnight finish, but the stations nearest the show can be crowd-controlled or closed to new arrivals at peak times. Load plenty of Nol card credit, get off a stop or two short of the show (Financial Centre or Business Bay, at the time of writing) and walk the last 20–40 minutes or so.

If you have a car, use it to reach a station early, not the fireworks: Downtown car parks fill early and can take an hour or more to empty after midnight, and the UAE has zero tolerance for drinking and driving. Our getting around Dubai guide compares the alternatives.

After midnight, walk away from the nearest station or taxi point instead of joining its queue. Fifteen minutes on foot often beats an hour in line.

Crowds, timing and what to bring

  • Arrive early: for the public areas near the Burj Khalifa, the afternoon or early evening, not 10pm. It is dark by about 6pm in late December.
  • Carry a charged phone and power bank, some ID, water and a light layer, and expect security checks. Large bags, glass bottles and drones are the usual restrictions.
  • Agree a meeting point and an exit plan, as mobile networks slow to a crawl in a dense crowd.
  • Leave the drinking to licensed venues. Alcohol is served only in places such as hotel bars, you must be 21, and being drunk in public is an offence.

New Year's Eve in Dubai with kids, or somewhere quieter

Downtown on New Year's Eve is hard going for small children: a late night, hours in a dense crowd, limited toilets and a slow exit. Gentler options are an early-evening countdown at Global Village in the years it runs one, a terrace or hotel seat, or a resort family event. Some galas are adults-only.

If you do take children into a crowd, agree a meeting point, put your phone number on a wristband, bring ear protection and leave early. Our guide to Dubai with kids covers the rest of the trip.

For a quieter night, try the Business Bay canal promenade for a distant view of the Burj Khalifa display, or a public beach on the Jumeirah coast.

What is the weather like on New Year's Eve in Dubai?

Late December is one of the most comfortable times of year in Dubai: typically mid-20s °C by day, falling to around 15–19°C after dark and cooler by the water. Rain is unlikely on the night, but on a still winter night fog can form near the coast and soften the view.

Dress for standing outside for hours: a light jacket and comfortable shoes, with smart casual for hotel dinners unless a gala sets a dress code. Our Dubai in winter guide covers the season's crowds and prices.

When to book, and what to book first

Late December is among the busiest and priciest stretches of Dubai's year, so book anything with a fixed capacity early: rooms, terrace tables, boats and ticketed zones, and a rental car too, because car rental rates climb around New Year. A car with a driver removes the parking and drink-driving worries, though it still stops at the road closures.

  1. 1By early November: book rooms, tables and any boat, and read the cancellation terms.
  2. 2In early December: check the confirmed line-ups and ticketing, and buy tickets for any zone.
  3. 3In the final week: check the Dubai Police and RTA announcements, top up your Nol card and agree a meeting point.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I watch the Burj Khalifa New Year's Eve fireworks?

From the free public areas on the Dubai Mall waterfront and the Downtown boulevards (full hours early), from ticketed zones near the lake in the years they are sold, or from a hotel or restaurant terrace. The Business Bay canal promenade is quieter and more distant.

Is it free to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks in Dubai?

Yes, from public ground such as the Downtown boulevards, the Marina Walk, JBR and the beaches. Free areas near the Burj Khalifa fill hours early and close once full, and in some years parts of Downtown are ticketed. Global Village charges entry.

What time are the New Year's Eve fireworks in Dubai?

The main displays are timed to midnight UAE time, four hours ahead of GMT, and last minutes, not an hour. Some venues run earlier shows, including Global Village for other time zones.

Does the Dubai Metro run late on New Year's Eve?

In recent years the RTA has extended Metro and tram hours well past the usual midnight finish. Hours are announced shortly beforehand and change each year, and stations nearest the fireworks can be crowd-controlled, so check the RTA's announcements or its S'hail app.

How much does New Year's Eve in Dubai cost?

From nothing to a lot. Public viewing is free, Global Village charges an entry fee of tens of dirhams, a set-menu dinner with a view typically runs roughly AED 600–2,500 a person, and a private yacht is a fixed package, often several times a normal evening's rate.

Can I drink alcohol while watching the fireworks in Dubai?

Only in licensed venues such as hotel bars and restaurants, and only if you are 21 or over. Drinking in the street, on the beach or in the crowd is not allowed, and the UAE has zero tolerance for drinking and driving.

Is it safe to take children to the New Year's Eve fireworks in Dubai?

Dubai is very safe and the big events are heavily policed, but the crowds are dense, the night is late and the exit is slow. Agree a meeting point, put your phone number on a wristband, bring ear protection and leave early.

Will there be fireworks in Dubai for New Year 2026-27?

Dubai has staged large New Year's Eve fireworks in most recent years, but organisers confirm line-ups, locations and ticketing only weeks ahead. Check Emaar, the hotels and Visit Dubai in December rather than last year's arrangements.
